Hello, dear friends! Welcome to Xiping—renowned as the Hometown of Chinese Leizu Culture, the Hometown of Chinese Iron-Smelting and Sword-Casting Culture, and the Hometown of Longevity in China. Let us explore the ecological, civilizational, and longevity codes embedded within this ancient county, which hosted tribal communities as early as the Neolithic Age 9,000 years ago and was established as a county in the early Han Dynasty 2,300 years ago. 西平县位于河南省中南部，处于郑州、武汉“两小时经济圈”内。京广铁路、107国道、京珠高速铁路、京港澳高速公路、许信高速公路纵贯南北，周驻南高速公路、345国道横穿东西，区位优越、交通发达。全县总面积1089.77平方公里，总人口88万人，是全国文明城市、国家园林城市、国家卫生城市、全国绿化模范县、中国生态魅力县、全国生态文明建设典范城市、中国美丽乡村建设示范县。

Xiping County is located in the south-central part of Henan Province, within the "two-hour economic circle" of Zhengzhou and Wuhan. It boasts superior location and developed transportation, with the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, National Highway 107, Beijing-Zhuhai High-Speed Railway, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway, and Xuchang-Xinyang Expressway running north-south, and Zhoukou-Zhumadian-Nanyang Expressway and National Highway 345 traversing east-west. The county covers a total area of 1,089.77 square kilometers with a population of 880,000. It is recognized as a National Civilized City, National Garden City, National Sanitary City, National Greening Model County, China’s Ecologically Charming County, National Ecological Civilization Construction Model City, and China’s Beautiful Countryside Construction Demonstration County.

古人说，读万卷书不如行万里路。近年来，县域休闲旅游成为一种新时尚，人们从追求名胜景区“打卡游”，转为寻找一个个“宝藏县城”，在美景、美食、文化中开眼界、长见识，享受休闲快乐的时光。感谢您选择西平，相信您会不虚此行。西平有“四美”，现将向各位娓娓道来。

As the ancients said, “Traveling ten thousand miles is better than reading ten thousand books.” In recent years, county leisure tourism has become a new trend. People are shifting from “check-in tours” at famous scenic spots to discovering “hidden gem counties,” broadening their horizons and knowledge through beautiful scenery, delicious food, and rich culture while enjoying leisurely and happy times. 一是生态美。

西平中东部是平原，西部是山区，呈“一心、两翼、多点”的全域旅游格局。一心指县城，满城一年四季绿意盎然，有1万亩的生态湿地公园、3600亩的海棠园、500亩的嫘祖文化苑、绵延小洪河、嫘祖河十余公里的海棠花海等，吸引着各方来客沉浸其中，可谓城在花中、花映城中，西平无处不胜景。两翼，东翼指老王坡生态农业示范区，淤泥河碧波荡漾，十余万亩农田林网一望无垠直接北方临城漯河，是中原粮仓、空降兵训练基地、豫坡美酒的原产地；西翼指西部山区的棠溪源国家森林公园风景区一带，峰峦叠嶂，树木葱郁，森林覆盖率32.3%，是“天然氧吧”，蕴藏着西平长寿之乡的密码。多点，包括多处自然人文景观、生态旅游村点等。

1. Ecological Beauty

Xiping’s central and eastern regions are plains, while the west is mountainous, forming a comprehensive tourism pattern characterized by “one core, two wings, and multiple points.” The core refers to the county seat, a city brimming with greenery year-round. It features a 10,000-mu ecological wetland park, a 3,600-mu crabapple garden, a 500-mu Leizu Cultural Garden, and over ten kilometers of stunning crabapple blossom vistas along the Xiaohong River and Leizu River. These attractions draw visitors from all directions to immerse themselves in the scenery, creating a landscape where “the city is nestled in blossoms, and blossoms mirror the city”—making Xiping a place of endless beauty. The eastern wing comprises the Laowangpo Ecological Agriculture Demonstration Zone, where the Yongyu River sparkles with clear waves. Vast farmlands and shelterbelts stretch seamlessly northward to Luohe, earning the area the title “Granary of the Central Plains.” It is also home to a paratrooper training base and the origin of Yupo fine liquor. The western wing encompasses the Tangxiyuan National Forest Park in the western mountains—a region of rolling peaks and lush forests. With a forest coverage rate of 32.3%, it serves as a “natural oxygen bar” and holds the secret to Xiping’s reputation as a longevity region. Multiple points include numerous natural, cultural, and eco-tourism village sites scattered throughout the county.

二是文化美。

9000年前，西平就是人类部落聚焦的地方。大家可能听说过入选全国百年百大考古发现、有11项世界之最的贾湖遗址。而西平谢老庄遗址，是贾湖同时期的，那里发现了6处距今近9000年的水井遗迹，是迄今我国乃至东亚东区发现的最早水井，把我国有水井的历史提早了2000多年。西平古为西陵，春秋时期称柏子国，汉高祖四年（公元前203年）置县至今。这里是中华之母——黄帝元妃蚕神嫘祖的故里，战国法家集大成者韩非的出生地，中国冶铁铸剑文化的发祥地。境内人文古迹星罗棋布，有孔子讲学处、韩非孤愤台、管鲍分金处等文化遗迹，有国家重点文物保护单位3处，省级12处、市级9处、县级15处。西平丁寨商周之际墓地，刚被列入河南考古十大发现，为最可能的为传世“文夏父丁”铭铜器（现存美国哈佛大学美术博物馆）提供了最可能的出土地。西部山区、棠溪湖畔的酒店冶铁遗址，现存一座我国乃至世界至今发现的时代最早、保存最完整、最早使用耐火材料炉壁的战国冶铁炉。遗址一带当时是战国时韩国的兵工制造重地，天下之强弓劲弩皆从韩出，传说战国九大名剑皆出于此。有诗赞曰：战国兵工厂，汉晋冶炉城。棠溪锻铁骨，醉卧古西陵。

2. Cultural Richness

As early as 9,000 years ago, Xiping was a focal point for human tribal activity. Many may have heard of the Jiahu Site, selected as one of China’s top hundred archaeological discoveries of the century and renowned for holding 11 world records. The Xielaozhuang Site in Xiping dates back to the same period as Jiahu. Here, six well remnants nearly 9,000 years old were discovered—the earliest wells ever found in China and even East Asia, pushing back the history of well use in China by over 2,000 years. Ancient Xiping was known as Xiling. During the Spring and Autumn period, it was called the State of Baizi, and was established as a county in the fourth year of Emperor Gaozu of Han (203 BCE), a status maintained to this day. This land is the hometown of Leizu, the Chinese Mother—principal wife of the Yellow Emperor and the Silkworm Goddess. It is also the birthplace of Han Fei, the master synthesizer of Legalist philosophy during the Warring States period, and the cradle of China’s iron-smelting and sword-casting culture. The region is dotted with cultural relics, including sites where Confucius lectured, Han Fei’s “Solitary Indignation” Platform, and the spot where Guan Zhong and Bao Shuya shared gold. It boasts 3 major historical sites protected at the national level, 12 at the provincial level, 9 at the municipal level, and 15 at the county level. The Dingzhai Cemetery from the Shang-Zhou transition, recently listed among Henan’s top ten archaeological discoveries, is the most likely provenance of the transmitted bronze vessel inscribed with “Wen Xia Fu Ding” (now housed in the Harvard Art Museums, USA). At the Jiudian Iron-Smelting Site near Tangxi Lake in the western mountains, stands the earliest, most intact Warring States iron-smelting furnace discovered in China and the world, featuring the earliest use of refractory materials for its walls. The surrounding area was a major arms manufacturing center for the State of Han during the Warring States period, renowned for producing the strongest bows and crossbows. Legend says all nine famous swords of the era originated here. A poem praises it: “Arsenal of the Warring States, Smelting City of Han and Jin; Tangxi forged iron’s backbone, Drunk asleep in ancient Xiling.”

三是美食美。

西平是全国粮食生产先进县、国家级水产绿色健康养殖和生态养殖示范区，“西平小麦”“西平红薯”被定为国家农产品地理标志品牌，猕猴桃、软籽石榴、黄金梨等各种绿色有机林果，鲈鱼、蛋鸡、绿色生猪、肉牛、奶山羊、走地鸡等养殖在西平枚不胜数。西平有多个酒厂，其中豫坡、棠河两大酒业集团生产的美酒远销国内外。西平鸡内鸡焦馍、罐饺子、兔肉、炒走地鸡、撒子、沫糊、豆腐脑等美食，不仅是西平人民的深刻记忆，更是很多游客的念想。今三麦食品、启明肉食、斯林食品等生产的美食，畅销全国市场。西平老百姓有句顺口溜：喝了西平酒，能活九十九；吃了西平麦，能活到一百。止2024年底，西平90岁至99岁老人4454人，百岁及以上的161人。

3. Culinary Delights

Xiping is recognized as a National Advanced County in Grain Production and a National Demonstration Zone for Green and Healthy Aquaculture and Ecological Farming. “Xiping Wheat” and “Xiping Sweet Potato” have been designated as National Agricultural Product Geographical Indication brands. The county abounds with green organic fruits such as kiwis, soft-seed pomegranates, and golden pears, as well as diverse aquaculture and livestock products including perch, layer hens, eco-friendly pigs, beef cattle, dairy goats, and free-range chickens. Xiping is home to multiple wineries, with renowned liquor groups like Yupo and Tanghe distributing their fine products domestically and internationally. Local delicacies such as Xiping Jineijiao Mo (crispy flatbread made with chicken inner skin), Guan Jiaozi (pot-stickers or stuffed dumplings), rabbit meat, stir-fried free-range chicken, Sanzi (fried dough twists), Mohu (a traditional paste or porridge), and Doufuhua (soft tofu pudding) are not only cherished memories for locals but also beloved cravings for many visitors. Today, food companies like Sanmai Food, Qiming Meat, and Silin Food produce popular products sold across national markets. A local rhyme captures the essence, “Drink Xiping liquor, live to ninety-nine; eat Xiping wheat, live to one hundred.” As of the end of 2024, Xiping had 4,454 residents aged 90 to 99 and 161 centenarians.

四是风貌美。

西平人聪明、善良、勤劳、能干、不排外、市场意识强、开放程度高，接受新事物快，力争上游，精神风貌蒸蒸日上。可能是受嫘祖养蚕制衣基因的影响，或许是中部最大的针织服装生产基地的熏陶，西平人总喜欢走在时尚的前沿，各位可以到西平各大商场、先进制造业开发区服装工厂店，以及棠溪服装批发市场逛一逛。西平人爱美，心灵也美。古有嫘祖与黄帝“八拜成婚”定礼仪，今有西平“移风易俗、红白喜事简办”破旧俗。作为全国文明城市，困扰全国的高价彩礼问题，在这里有着很好的解决途径——变彩礼嫁妆为“创业基金”。西平人爱献血、爱助学、爱做志愿服务，爱扶危济困。总之，西平政风清、民风淳，是投资热土，是宜居家园，热诚欢迎各位在这里旅游观光，也欢迎各位来投资兴业，成为新西平人。
